A brief but nonetheless warm hello from my hill this morning,
The trail of devastation left in the wake of last Thursdays storm after pounding the hill and surrounding villages and towns with giant hailstones is a sight that would break the hardest of hearts. Le Marie has declared a natural disaster.
The days that have passed since have felt sadly worrying, they leave me with no words of comfort, only a feeling of restlessness, despair and many moments of fear for the future. Every year these storms become more violent, more damaging and more frequent. We have been left with sporadic power cuts, no internet, intermittent mobile connection and once again hours of paperwork in order to make claims to the insurance who may or may not pay out for damages. All of which has stolen time for walking and inspiration for writing.
First world problems, I agree, a fact that simply adds yet more despondent anguish.
The reason, today, I give you just a few seconds of calm instead… normal will hopefully return in a few days.
I am in need….
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien
I send love, light and hope to you all, and as always a huge thank you for being here
Remember too your shoulders cannot be
The resting place of all responsibility
The future into this Now will spill
But it’s not yet there upon your hill
So, roam and soak up nature’s loving ways
For that’s the path to better days
And write it all and share it round
To keep our feet strong upon this ground
Oh Susie! I have been out driving in hail storms where we had to pull over and luckily 4 strong guys were in the vehicle, hands up, pushing on the roof, to prevent it from caving in. Never have I seen hail that size.,Truly a nightmare. I am glad you weren’t caught on the hill.
I assume none of your animals were hurt. Now my mind wanders to all the other beings that live on your beautiful hill. I see why your skylights were broken. Almost other worldly.
Since you’ve quoted Tolkien, my all time favorite, This came to mind. The Fellowship of the Ring; Saruman stands on the pinnacle of Orthanc bringing the mountain down with its ice and snow, on the travelers of the Fellowship. ( While my books are worn from reading so many times, I did have to look this up).
The sound alone, must have been deafening. And to add to the weary mind, insurance companies. A major part of my ‘previous life’ , managing my husband’s practice. We had a saying; insurance companies, a license to steel. For now, wishing you moments of peace after the storm.
