Her door, strangely, is open although Ellie is certain she’d locked it. She had been out to buy oranges due a promise to her son of marmalade toast for breakfast and been gone barely 10 minutes.
She can smell their citrusy scent stronger than it should be as she carries them to the kitchen. Putting them gently down, fearful of having smushed a few en route she turns to her work space and stares speechlessly at enough pre-cut oranges for fifty kilos of marmalade, jars ready also.
