I bundled myself in layers of warmth this morning, still feeling the effects of the last 48 feverish hours because, annoyingly, one of the many bugs circulating finally infiltrated its way into my body - just hours after I had been congratulating myself on having avoided them too; foolish move! So with the chickens fed, my sheep, who, still won’t succumb to the inevitability of eating hay and giving me their ‘we are so not happy’ look - I grab my scruffy little dog Wolfie and wander off with a camera slung over my shoulder the short distance down the hill to a small pine forest that borders the lane. The ground was hard with frost and crunchy underfoot, the air crisp, every one of the -4 degrees below zero temperature made my ears and cheeks tingle, my breath a mist of tiny bubbles of moisture which dispersed into cold air just as quickly as they formed.
I watched the sun creep over distant hills out of indigo night, melting from crimson into soft, peachy morning light.
I watched as it caught on the breeze in the gently swaying long pine needles, how they glittered and sparkled like earth stars, trillions of them beckoning me…
These are the simple moments I enjoy most, they kick-start my day. They are precious moments I want to share, moments that make me thankful to be alive on another glorious day on my hill and I just wanted to share them with you as a thank you for your overwhelming support - I am not certain of the protocol here on Substack yet so if I have neglected to hit a button I should have - there seem to be so many - my apologies, I will get there eventually!
Have a wonderful weekend. Susie X
